I get home and flip though the book and I see an immediate obstacle that Julia is going to have. It's not a long word nor does it have silent letters.
I see this and think to myself "Oh damn how am I going to get Jules to say dam!" :) I asked her if she thought dam was a bad word. Her response was clear, she had heard it come out of my mouth a time or two and knew it was not something she was allowed to say. I was surprised she did not say "LANGUAGE!!" which is what Lawrence says when I say a bad word.
I ended up passing the responsibility to Lawrence. He talked to Jules about words that sound the same but mean different things. For the most part she now understands. The book is below her reading level (my juju is an AMAZING reader) so she reads the book with ease. When the time comes to read "we make a dam" she gives a little giggle and her eyes get wide.

Love that first picture of her!
